During the Republic, Sullust was an honored member of the Galactic Senate.  Through the centuries, SoroSuub played an increasingly large role in the planet's diplomacy as the corporation aided the government while introduction its products to new markets on other worlds.  During the Clone Wars, SoroSuub eclipsed the Sullustan Council.

With the rise of the Empire SoroSuub issued Corporate Proclamation 137d, which dissolved the Sullustan Planetary Council and took over the planet.

The planet is now governed by SoroSuub's Board of Directors who retain the Sullustan Planetary Council as a puppet regime.  The planet retains its independence due to SSC's vast government contracts.
